All are welcome worldwide!

The purpose of this Wiki is to provide resources and information so that you may perform the needed operation in relation to Firmware Updates. If your device is not listed, we probably have not had to deal with it, or have to update its firmware. You can bring it up during the Net as a quick question, but due to the time of the Net we will not discuss the methods of HOW to perform it. However, we will gather the needed information from the group based on what we DO NOT HAVE and will document it here for you to continue to use your hardware and keep it up to date, as possible.

Credit is given where credit is due... (provided I have your information). We do not take others work and act as if it is our own. As you will notice, none of these links direct back to us - they are to the resources you will need to get your specific device updated and running.

--- Firmware Update Process ---

The PRIMARY METHOD for getting these files to your Pi-Star uses the 'wget' command to go out and grab the firmware update scripts. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you picked out which firmware update you need based on the above info (ie. china spot vs zumspot).

The ALTERNATE/ADVANCED METHOD is to Click on this link, download/copy everything from to your notepad, you will need to paste this laster down in the process. If you downloaded it, check your Downloads Folder. Windows will not know how to open .sh files, so you will have to manually open it up with notepad.

Now to login and update the rPi...

Now that you have the above "info", perform the following below:

=== THIS PAGE ASSUMES YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF PRIOR LINUX KNOWLEDGE - IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PERFORM THE UPDATE AFTER READING THIS WIKI, PLEASE RE-READ AND RETRY IT. THESE PROCESSES WERE WRITTEN BY HIGH LEVEL SCRIPT WRITERS AND ENGINEERS, IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE PERFORMING THESE COMMANDS, ASK A FRIEND WHO IS KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THESE COMMANDS AND HOW THEY WORK ===

1. SSH INTO YOUR PI-STAR USE PUTTY, THE BUILT IN SSH SHELL WILL NOT WORK

2. LOGIN AS pi-star

3. PASSWORD IS raspberry

— TYPE THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS FOLLOWED BY ENTER -

4. rpi-rw (enter)

5. cd /usr/bin (enter)

6. Determine which update you are doing from the above notes and perform a 'wget' command to get the firmware update script.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, AS YOU WILL HAVE TO MODIFY THE FILE ONCE YOU PERFORM A WGET ON THE FILE.

ALL OF THIS ONLY NEEDS TO BE DONE ONCE - IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE ALL THIS, SKIP TO THE END AND RUN THE SCRIPT PREVIOUSLY DOWNLOADED IN THIS WIKI - SKIP TO STEP 10.

ChinaSpot - wget http://vk4tux.duckdns.org/izspot/hswfw.sh (broken link)

Zumspot - wget http://vk4tux.duckdns.org/izspot/zswfw.sh (broken link)

Nanospot - wget http://vk4tux.duckdns.org/izspot/nhswload.sh (broken link)

8. Type "sudo wget <url to firmware package you need>" - see above for examples - (enter)

Example: sudo wget http://vk4tux.duckdns.org/izspot/hswfw.sh (broken link)

9. TYPE “sudo chmod 777 <filename.sh>" that you just downloaded (enter).

Example: sudo chmod 777 hsfsw.sh (enter)

10. RUN SCRIPT BY TYPING THE FOLLOWING - sudo ./<filename>.sh and hit enter. Make sure you type the "./" before the "<filename>.sh" otherwise the script will not run.

Example: sudo ./hsfsw.sh

By now you should see a bunch of text scrolling past your screen. When its done, it will reboot your rPi. Just watch the screen and follow the rest of the directions after you run the script.

IF YOU COPIED AND PASTED ANYTHING FROM THE EXAMPLES - DON'T EXPECT THEM TO WORK. THEY ARE FOR EXAMPLE USE TO INDICATE WHICH FILENAME YOU WILL NEED TO WORK WITH.

Honorable Mention: DV4Mini:

Wireless Holdings has not been working with the Brandmister Developers so the use of the DV4Mini is not guaranteed nor are we providing any documentation or resources on this product at the time due to lack of documentation, software and firmware updates. There are talks of removing the DV4minis from the BM DMR Network WorldWide, so - steer clear of these devices for the time being until Wireless Holdings gets their act together.
